“President Trump today effectively hit the reset button on the national debate about privacy over our digital and communication networks. First and foremost, we now must ensure that citizens actually understand the rules and practices governing the collection of data privacy whenever they are online, including those that apply when they sign in on their ISP, use their mobile devices, and participate on digital platforms such as Facebook or Google. Only then can we work toward a consensus about what are reasonable privacy expectations, and call for Congress, working with the FTC, to implement these expectations into policy. The Digital Citizens Alliance looks forward to a robust debate that both educates Americans on current online privacy practices and responds to legitimate concerns in order to develop commonsense policy for 21st-century technology.”
