Washington, DC - Digital Citizens Alliance Executive Director Tom Galvin made the following comments after learning that Facebook would hire 3,000 people to monitor videos posted on the social network for violent activities.
“Over the last year, we have seen numerous examples of how the digital platforms we rely upon are being exploited by bad actors. Facebook’s actions today reflect that the company takes seriously the potential harm these bad actors pose to Internet safely and consumers in particular. While more needs to be done, Digital Citizens sees Facebook's efforts as an important step in showing platform responsibility. We hope other sites also recognize the opportunity to enhance their own programs and make the internet safer.”
